Firefly Valley Leisure Park, Kota Tinggi, Johor

Before the trip

Few weeks before our upcoming Johor road trip, when I was looking in the internet for places to bring the boys, tripadvisor recommended the Firefly Valley Leisure Park at Kota Tinggi. I found the contact number of the place through the Firefly Valley Leisure Park Facebook page and contacted the person in charge, Mr. Tan through WhatsApp. He told me that there isn’t enough reservation to start the firefly river cruise on my selected date (20/3/2018) and will update me should there be any changes.

Fast forward to few days before our Johor trip, Mr. Tan contacted me and told me that there will be enough people to start the river cruise on 19/3/2018 and 21/3/2018, which both days are not my intended date to visit. I really wanted to bring the boys to see fireflies for the first time so I decided to change our schedule a little to make it to this place.

No disappointment at all, the kids enjoyed the place.

Location

The Firefly Valley Leisure Park is located at Kota Tinggi. It took us around 45 minutes to drive there from our hotel at Bukit Indah. There was just some minor traffic jam as it was off-work period but it wasn’t that bad. We reached the place at around 6.15pm.

The first thing that caught our attention when we reached the place was the tractor parked near to the entrance. Before anything else, Yu Yu wanted to sit on the tractor, which was his first time. In fact, Ping Ping was excited as well.

Mini animal farm

This is the fun part for the kids. There are lots of animal in the farm which some can be pet and fed. The boys enjoyed feeding the goats the most.

The boys like to run across the mini suspension bridge as well. Yu Yu was scared at first but after seeing how Ping Ping was running on it, he joined the fun and finally got the hang of it.

Playground

Besides feeding and petting the animal, the boys played at the playground before having our dinner. I enjoyed looking at how the boys were happily playing with each other. There were swings, see-saw and the “merry-go-round” which the boys enjoyed the most.

Dinner

It’s convenient that we can have our dinner here before the firefly river cruise. They have lots of choice in their menu and the food is reasonably priced. Not to mention that they tasted good too. I’ve ordered seafood fried rice and steam egg and shared among the 3 of us. The bill was close to RM40 including the coke and orange juice.

We got to enjoy our dinner beside the little stream.

Firefly river cruise

The rider cruise started at around 7.45pm and lasted for around 30 minutes. No photography was allowed during the river cruise due to “environmental” issue. Nevertheless, this gave me to focus on passing the information given by the guide to the boys.

Final Thought

If it’s just about the firefly river cruise, I personally preferred my previous experiences at Kuala Selangor where we get to sit on motorized “sampan” and get closer to the shore, hence nearer to the fireflies. Also, photography was allowed at Selangor.

However, I think overall this was a good trip for the boys because they got to pet and feed the animals, got to play at the playground, got to ride on a boat and got to see the fireflies. It was kinda like a 1-trip-served-all trip. So, for those with kids and plan to visit Johor, I would recommend this place. However, do contact the person in-charge prior to visiting to avoid disappointment.
